No more guessing; no more spy shots. The Nissan GT-R SpecV has officially arrived.
Compared to the standard GT-R, the SpecV adds a a carbon fiber rear spoiler, carbon fiber grille, and carbon fiber brake ducts. It also gets lightweight, racing-style forged aluminum wheels from NISMO as standard. The SpecV will be available in one color exclusively set for the car called Ultimate Black Opal.
As expected from a car like the GT-R, one of the biggest advantages of the SpecV is in the technology. It gets a new high gear boost control device, which momentarily increases boost of the engine’s twin turbochargers for greater torque in the intermediate-to-high speed ranges to provide a more powerful feeling of acceleration, while also allowing the engine to operate at a lower speed for improved fuel economy.Other modifications include a titanium-coated exhaust system and carbon-ceramic brakes.
Sales will begin in Japan on February 2, and the price will start from 15,750,000 yen (about $170,000 at direct current rates.) The car will be sold only through seven special Japanese dealers that Nissan says, "who are knowledgeable of racing circuit driving." There is no word yet if Nissan is preparing any extra outlets in the U.S to handle the SpecV.

Nissan has just unveiled their GT1 spec R35 GT-R that is scheduled to compete in the full 2010 FIA GT1 season. Debuting at the FIA’s media days at the Paul Ricard circuit in France, the race spec GT-R was a joined effort between Nissan’s in house motor sport division Nismo and the Essex based GT1 racers Gigawave Motorsports.

The 370Z Roadster made its world debut at the New York Auto Show. Premiering less than five months after the coupe version, the roadster truly just takes the advantages of the 370Z and chops off the top. This means the 370Z Roadster is lighter, shorter and more powerful than its predecessor.
Just like the coupe, the droptop is powered by the same 332-hp 3.7-liter DOHC V6 engine (up 26 hp from the 350Z Roadster). Included with the engine is Variable Valve Event and Lift control (VVEL) and the redline is raised about 1000 rpms to 7500. The engine mated to either a seven-speed automatic transmission with Downshift Rev Matching, or close-ratio six-speed manual with available SynchroRev Match (it ‘blips’ the throttle to keep the car in the next gear’s powerband). Estimated fuel economy with both transmissions is 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
The 370Z Roadster is being offered in two different versions: 370Z Roadster and the 370Z Touring Roadster. The Touring version will be available with two packages: Sport Package, with 19-inch RAYS forged wheels and Bridgestone Potenza tires, Nissan Sport Brakes, SynchroRev Match (6-speed manual transmission only) and Viscous Limited Slip Differential; and the Navigation Package, with Hard Drive-based Nissan Navigation System, 9.3GB Music Box Hard Drive and USB connectivity.

In a very bold move Nissan Jidosha Kabushiki-gaisha has made history by unveiling their first zero emissions vehicle intended for mass production. In an attempt to skip the gas/electric hybrid craze and jump directly into plug in electric vehicles, it might appear that Carlos Gohsen is set on taking over the world like a James Bond villain with the long awaited lithium ion beattery technology. This past Sunday the Japanese automaker unveiled the Nissan Leaf, a five door electric vehicle with a 100+ Mile range at their home base in Yokohama. The Leaf features a sharp, upright V-shaped body with a pair of slanted LED headlights that were designed to cleverly split and redirect airflow away from the door mirrors, thus reducing wind, noise and drag.
Those top secret batteries that we were talking about are made up of laminated lithium ion cells that are capable of delivering over 90 kW of power and weigh only 440 pounds. The battery pack sends it stored energy to the Leaf’s front mounted electric drive motor that only outputs 80 of those kilowatts for a maximum output of 107 HP. The interesting thing about an electric motor is that they make their peak torque at 0 RPM, we know this sounds crazy, but unlike the internal combustion engine, the amount of energy an electric motor can do is based upon how it was made and it delivers that power at one constant amount. That is a healthy 208 lb-ft of torque. The instantaneous power should provide off the line acceleration comparable to the Infiniti G35 sports car.
Of course the question with any purely electric vehicle is how long will it take to charge? Nissan claims that the Leaf will take 8 hours for a full charge from a 200 V source; so a high capacity 220 V outlet is recommended, otherwise it will take twice as long for a full charge from a standard 110 V AC outlet. There is an impressive 50 kW AC fast-charge capability. This allows for an 80% charge of the lithium ion batteries meaning you can go up to 80 miles with only a 30 minute charge, or if you are really in a hurry, you can get an additional 31 miles after being plugged in for only 10 minutes. Although the hardware necessary is a little too expensive for in home use, leave that up to your local municipality. The disadvantage of having to run with all that electronic gear onboard is the excess weight, however because it can be mounted low in the chassis it should make for a decent handling package.

The first Z was launched in 1969, when Nissan was still called Datsun. Named 240Z in , the sportscar was known as “Fairlady” in and US. Ever since, Nissan’s Z was the symbol of high-performance, all the cars wearing it being considered a competitor for the Porsches of that time.
The latest Z model still in production is the 350Z. Launched in august 2002, it was the car to rehabilitate the Z-tag after the assembly of the 300Z stopped due to poor sales in the late 90’s. Offered as both a coupe and a roadster the 350Z proved to be a success, and sales are still good, after four years of fabrication. Probably by 2009, the situation will no longer be the same, as the car will have grown old by then. At that time, a new model will come to carry further the Z-badge.
Wearing the internal code Z34, the new sportscar is expected to be called 400Z, as the engine displacement will probably have to grow up to 4-liters in order to keep up with the competition. All Z-models up until now had 6-cylinder engines. The first generations were straight-6es and the rest used a “V” configuration. Following the Z tradition, the 400z should feature a V6, but six cylinders are not enough for such a large displacement. Usually 4-liter engines are V8’s and Nissan is very likely to switch to that;

Nissan unveiled today at the New York Auto Show the 2009 Maxima, a model that marks a return to the longtime Nissan flagship sedan’s roots as a commanding 4-door sports car – a vehicle that is unique in both appearance and driving feel.
For five previous generations, Maxima has been built on a front-wheel drive (FWD) platform. Yet with the new Maxima’s development team everything was open for discussion, including the benefits of front-wheel drive versus rear-wheel drive (RWD). Although there are well-known advantages of RWD in terms of sporty handling, it was ultimately decided that by switching Maxima from its previous platform to Nissan’s new “D platform,” which was first introduced on the current Nissan Altima Sedan, Hybrid and Coupe, the target Maxima performance could be delivered – without giving up the added FWD benefits of lower costs, lower weight and enhanced roominess versus a RWD platform.
For 2009, Maxima again features a standard 3.5-liter VQ-series V6 engine, enhanced and refined to take its driving performance to new levels. The engine delivers 290 hp and 261 lb-ft of torque (estimated), increases of 35 horsepower and 9 lb-ft of torque over the 2008 Maxima. All 2009 Maximas come equipped with a revised Xtronic CVT with manual mode, tuned specifically for Maxima’s sporty driving character.

2009 Nissan Denki Cube
The second model presented by Nissan at the New York Auto Show is the Denki (Japanese for “electric”) Cube Concept. The lithium-ion battery-powered Denki Cube electric vehicle concept was created to draw attention to Nissan global environmental efforts. It also serves as a preview of Nissan’s future small car strategy for the North American market, which includes plans to sell a redesigned gasoline-powered, next-generation Cube at Nissan dealers in the United States and Canada beginning in 2009.
The Denki Cube Concept’s exterior features fresh front and rear styling treatments, including a new “electric themed” front grille design with an AC power charging port, a radical “lightning” headlight design and new bumpers and turn signal lamps. In the rear, the signature Cube asymmetrical rear quarter area (with wraparound glass on one side) has been enhanced by a new bumper with hidden taillights. The roof sheet metal has been replaced with a full fixed glass panel that enhances the interior’s sense of wide-open space. The Denki Cube Concept exterior also features new door mirrors and unique 16-inch wheel covers. The finishing touch is provided by a special white pearl paint and graphics.
The biggest transformation from production Cube to Denki Cube Concept is one that isn’t visible – the replacement of the standard 1.3-liter inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor and laminated lithium-ion batteries located under the floor and seats. The laminated structure and unique material technology offer more power, energy and battery stability, as well as compact size and packaging flexibility, versus conventional cylindrical batteries.

2009 Nissan 370Z Coupe
It’s officially official: the new 370Z is out. As expected, the new Z car is lighter, stronger, shorter and faster than its predecessor. Coupe sales will begin in North America by January 2009, followed by a new 370Z Roadster for the 2010 model year. Exact pricing has not been confirmed, but Nissan says it will remain around $30,000.
Compared to the 350Z’s four trim lineup (regular, Enthusiast, Touring and Grand Touring), the new generation Z will only be offered in two versions: 370Z and the 370Z Touring. For both models, Nissan offers two option packages: the Sport Package and the Navigation Package.
The 370Z is powered by a 3.7-liter VQ37VHR engine with VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift) rated at 332 hp at 7,000 rpm and 270 lb-ft of torque at 5,200 rpm. The engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed 7-speed automatic with Downshift Rev Matching (DRM) and Adaptive Shift Control (ASC). Estimated fuel economy from the six-cylinder is 18 mpg City/26mpg Highway for both the 7-speed automatic and 6-speed manual transmissions.
The exterior of the car has been sharpened with "boomerang" HID headlights and taillights, revised front-end, and wider wheel arches. The interior uses upgraded materials. It still keeps the retro look from the original Z-cars, including the tri-gauge dash.

2009 Nissan Fairlady Z
If it looks like a 370Z and it sounds like a 370Z, then it must be a 370Z. In Japan, Nissan has used historically the Fairlady name on its sports cars, including the entire line on Z cars. So, its the same car as the U.S., it just has the steering wheel on the other side. Just like in the U.S. this marks the 40th anniversary of the Z car. The new Fairlady Z’s enhanced performance characteristics are a result of its shorter wheelbase, reduced weight and the adoption of the larger, more powerful VQ37VHR 3.7-liter V6 engine. It also offers the world’s first 6-speed manual transmission with synchronized rev control or a newly developed 7-speed automatic transmission with a manual shift mode. The combination of more horsepower, new transmissions and a refined suspension helps the Fairlady Z deliver the superior acceleration, cornering and stopping capabilities expected of a true world-class sports car. The VQ37VHR engine delivers 332 hp at at 7000 rpm and maximum torque of 270 lbs-ft at 5200 rpm. Combining power with ease of driving, this remarkable engine accelerates effortlessly and smoothly all the way to the high-speed range.

Nissan’s NV2500 is one of the largest concept vehicles Nissan has ever produced. It is the commercial vehicle that Nissan announced would take the place of the Titan at the Canton, Mississippi, plant, when it announced the next-generation Titan would be built by Dodge. The first Nissan commercial vehicle is scheduled to be launched in the first half of 2010.
The NV2500 Concept’s “wall-less” mobile office/workspace design includes a computer workstation, fold-down conference table, numerous storage compartments, cargo/tool tie-down racks, nearly six feet of interior height and an awning-style side panel that opens to create a standing outside workshop table.
The NV2500 is conceived to be a multi-purpose utility vehicle. Built on a modified Nissan Titan full-size pickup all-steel, fully boxed ladder frame, engine choices would be selected for competitive power and fuel efficiency. Other under-skin components include an automatic transmission and solid rear axle. The wheels are a special 20-inch billet aluminum design, while the Michelin tires include a special tread pattern designed for a good payload capacity and fuel efficiency.

An AWD crossover with a motorcycle-inspired interior; this is how Qazana can be resume in just a few words. According to NIssan, Qazana is not just a concept car, it is also study into how a small car of the future could look.
At a first look Qazana is a two-door coupe, it also has a further pair of rear-hinged half doors to ease access to the rear compartment. One notable feature of the roof-line is the virtually straight cant rail above the doors which adds further to the strength of the profile. The roof itself has a pair of thin glass inserts running the full length of the roof which allow slithers of natural light into the cabin.
The front is dominated by four headlamps. Two lower circular lamps set within the bumper contrast with a pair of daylight running strips mounted high on the wings on either side of the bonnet: the look is of a rally car preparing for a night stage.

The shape of the center console and armrest has been inspired by the fuel tank and seat of a sports motorcycle. The dashboard is dominated by a centrally mounted screen. As well as doubling as a navigation display, it will deliver vital information relating to Nissan’s next generation fully electronic ALL MODE four-wheel drive with torque vectoring system and other advanced technical processes found on board, including integrated communications systems.

According to Nissan, economy cars don’t have to look boring anymore. In an attempt to deliver go fast style at an affordable rate the Japanese automaker is introducing their newest edition to the Sentra family. The latest of seven available Sentra options, the SR model, combines the physical attributes of the high-performance SE-R and 200 HP Spec V models at a price only $1000 above the base model Sentra, the FE+ 2.0 that comes with 15 inch steelies and no ABS.
The car is officially known as the Nissan Sentra FE+ 2.0 SR and is scheduled to go on sale nationwide on April 17th of this year. Priced at only $17,760 the SR model costs the same at the well optioned FE+ 2.0 S that comes with a continuously variable transmission.
Pretty much everything that makes the SR special is cosmetic. The owner can choose from six colors for their SR, including those colors once reserved exclusively for the SE-R and Spec V models. Starting up front there is a Sentra SE-R styled front bumper complete with a sports inspired mesh grill and dark chrome accents surrounding the headlights. Lower side skirts borrowed from the SE-R help to close the gap between the vehicle and the pavement. Sitting on top of the trunk is a sporty looking spoiler straight from an SE-R. Differentiating the SR from ordinary Sentras are smoked taillight housings. The molded lip at the bottom of the rear bumper resembles the SE-R’s except that on the SR it is slightly raised in the middle. Finishing off the sporty looking Sentra is the proprietary SR badge on the right side of the trunk.

The Japanese tuning house Mine’s have been hard at work developing parts for all versions of the R35 Nissan GT-R, SpecV and traditional. They have already unlocked and remapped Nissan’s uncrackable ECU and are currently developing a Super Big Throttle Body to work with their VX-ROM. The tuners have also created a number of dry carbon fiber products and are working on a VR38DETT Super Complete Engine.
When I found out that Top Speed would be getting a 2010 Nissan 370Z in our test fleet I was excited to say the least. I have been a Nissan fan since I found out about drifting and an owner for the last five years. You could say that I love Nissans. So although I had dreams of clutch kicking the new 332 HP VQ in the Z car, and run up and down the 6 speed gearbox, taking full advantage of the new Syncro RevMatch transmission that is said to be able to replace the need for heal-toe while down shifting. I am proud to say that the updated Z car is the first car I’ve ever gotten to take on the Top Speed Test Track. Unfortunately, being a first timer I could only muster up the courage to stand on the throttle at corner exit. I can confirm that the Nissan 370Z has no problem stepping the back end out.
2009 Nissan Altima Coupe 3.5 SE

The designers at Nissan were on to something when they came up with the Altima Coupe. By taking a relatively attractive Altima, loosing two doors, tightening the back glass and stretching the rear sheet metal to pronounce a metal step over the rear wheels, they have created a very stylish sports coupe, a package that looks like something that would normally cost much more to own. When you choose the tried and true VQ35 engine, a power plant that Nissan used in everything from the 350Z to the FX35, you also get a sport tuned suspension and 18 inch split five spoke rims standard. The sleek two door profile and rear over fenders make the Altima Coupe a vehicle that would make Inifiniti owners jealous.
Our Nissan Altima Coupe 3.5 SE came with a $3,200 Premium Package that will definitely help when it comes time to impress the ladies. The package upgraded the Coupe with luxury comforts like soft leather, 7 speaker Bose audio system and HID headlamps. This bumped the $26,890 base price of a V6 powered Altima Coupe up to $31,560.
Did we mention that our SE came with another acronym, CVT, continuously variable transmission? Top Speed recently had a four door Altima equipped with the same transmission not too long ago, but this time the Coupe came with Nissan’s Xtronic version that allows the driver to shift manually. However, the 270 HP from the V6 and excellent coupe styling, make this Altima an entirely different kind of animal.

The 370Z Yellow is painted in the sun inspired color and wears a set of 19 inch RAYS forged alloy wheels, but what really sets this Z car off are the 1970s Porsche RS inspired side stripes that spell out exactly what is driving down the road. Both items set off the gleaming yellow body to perfection.
The interior is another story all together, consisting of black leather and suede, the inside of the Yellow 370Z is both comfortable and grippy. Electronics consist of an integrated satellite navigation system and a BOSE audio with eight speakers and a built in six disc CD changer. The Nissan Cube may be new to the U.S. market, but the miniature box shaped people mover has been on sale in Japan for over a decade. For 2009 Nissan has redesigned the Cube and decided that they can compete with other space conscious small cars like the Scion xB and the new Kia Soul. Our car came with a 122 HP 1.8 Liter four cylinder engine connected to a fuel efficient Xtronic CVT, continuously variable transmission.
Our $22,780 Cube Mobile Device came complete with the optional Ginormous Kit that adds some bulging bodywork and a healthy dose of personality to Nissan’s boxcar. The interior was equally as interesting with a few carbon fiber trim pieces and a piece of funky looking shag carpet smack dab in the middle of the dash. The only thing better than the spacious interior of our Cube was the way it drove. The Cube was softly sprung and extremely comfortable. The 2009 Cube is all new for the U.S. and it might take some getting used to for domestic consumers, however one quick fix for any hesitant new car buyer would be a test drive.
